Surface EMG
At Integrated Chiropractic, we utilize Surface EMG, an advanced computerized technology that measures the electrical current of the muscles along your spine. This measurement indicates where, and to what degree, your nervous system is experiencing stress and tension.
Subluxations, (spinal misalignments), disturb nerve function and cause an abnormal amont of electrical current to flow to your muscles. We use the sEMG to locate these abnormal levels to more precisely determine your need for care.
Muscle balance is extremely important. Again, if there are subluxations, (spinal misalignments), nerve function will be disturbed. Abnormal electrical currents on either side of the spine will cause muscle imbalance to occur. Abnormal muscle tone, tension, or balance will cause postural deviations and ultimately degenerative spinal conditions.
The sEMG detects abnormal muscle balance, tone and tension.
Example of an initial scan (with abnormal readings), and a re-scan after receiving chiropractic care.
By using the Surface EMG scan, we can objectively:
- Detect areas of stress and tension on your nervous system.
- Document and monitor your results.
- Deliver appropriate chiropractic care specifically for the condition of your spine.
Frequently asked questions about the sEMG scan:
Does the scan hurt?
NEVER. The test is completely non-invasive; there are no needles, electrical shock or heat.
Why does the chiropractor administer these tests?
The purpose of the sEMG scan is to detect abnormal function in the spine which cannot be seen on x-ray. Abnormal spinal function causes abnormal Nervous System disturbance.
Why is it important to monitor the results?
Dr. Davis wants the best results for his patients. He can easily monitor your changes as you receive chiropractic care through periodic progress scans. It has been proven that even a very slight amount of pressure can disturb Nervous System communication, whether or not symptoms are present! Monitoring your Nervous System function is vital to maintaining and improving your health and well-being.
How will this test benefit me?
The sEMG scan allows you to see exactly where you have subluxations in your spine, and gives you the ability to actually see the changes occuring from your chiropractic care.
